2024 MIDTERMS!!!

The Week 8 congratulations go to Mr. Shawn Martin who took home his 2nd Weekly High Score Prize as the only team able to break into triple digits, logging a 113-67 victory over Sofa King Shitty.  J LUV U LONG TIME was led by Jalen Hurts who scored 34 points, and CeeDee Lamb who scored 26.  Four other players scored in double digits as well, with Devonta Smith scoring 14 and Alvin Kamara, Tony Pollard and Ka’imi Fairbairn all posting 11.  The win puts Shawn’s record at 5-3, 2nd place in the North.  Well done sir!

Eight weeks are in the books, so it is time to dole out midterm grades!  Lets jump right into it.

Since 2017 midterm grades have been doled out using the same methodology and grading criteria.  The categories graded are: Overall Record, Points Scored, Points Against, Weekly High Scores, Best Bench, Waiver Moves, Keeper Production and Utilization.  For each category, teams are ranked 1-10 and are awarded points based on where they rank.  If two or more teams are tied in a category, points are split equally.  For categories Overall Record, Points Scored, Weekly High Scores, Keeper Production and Utilization, the maximum points awarded is 10.  For categories Points Against, Best Bench and Waivers, the maximum points awarded is 5.  Grades are awarded on a strict curve with 2 A’s, 2 B’s, 2 C’s, 2 D’s and 2 F’s.  Numbers dictate everything, there are no judgement calls on my part.

Last year’s “A+” midterm grade went to James who went on to claim the championship.  Last year’s “A” grade went to Timmy who then went on to finish 9th.  Last year’s worst grade of “F” went to Jason, who ultimately finished 5th.  Jens received a “D” last season but finished as runner-up.  Ultimately the midterm grade is a measure for how your team has done for the first eight games, but does not dictate how the season will finish.

John holds the dubious distinction of having had the most points scored against him so far this season.  Additionally, John has the most waiver moves so far with a very solid 17 moves.  Unfortunately, his keeper production ranks last (Anthony Richardson (61 pts) and Puka Nacua (17 pts)).

In a weird coincidence, Tim has scored the fewest points and has had the fewest points scored against him.  That, unfortunately coupled with the lowest Utilization rate added up to not a very good score.

James changed his team name this week to Sofa King Shitty, perhaps preparing for this grade.  James currently ranks 8th in scoring and has had the 2nd most points scored against him.  He also ranks 9th in both Keeper Production (mostly because Christian McCaffrey hasn’t played this season) and Utilization.

WORST FANTASY PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

If a defense gives up more than 35 points, they earn -4 points.  A negative four would be the absolute lowest score a defense could get.  And on Sunday the Cincinnati Bengals did just that.  In their game versus the Philadelphia Eagles, they recorded no fumble recoveries, no interceptions, no quarterback sacks, no safeties, no blocked kicks nor any 4th down stops.  They could’ve even scored a point by getting 50 return yards, but alas, they only had 42.  And in the process of recording none of those stats, they gave up 37 points, making this the single worst fantasy performance this season… so far.

BEST BENCH

Up through last week no team had taken home more than one Best Bench this season.  But that all changed with this week’s winner.  (Joe, John and Jens you are safe this week, but you are on notice!)  With a strong 41-point-improvement-possibility, and taking home a second Best Bench, the Week 8 Best Bench goes to… Sofa King Shitty!  James needed just three roster moves to get there… M. Harrison Jr for A. Cooper +17, D. Swift for J. Mason +17 and B. Nix for J. Daniels +7.

Get those waivers in and get ready for Week 9!  Six more weeks of regular season before the playoffs!  PLAYOFFS?!?
